Description

The 2019 competition concept for an educational campus in Reguły near Warsaw organises a large, wedge-shaped site around four clearly defined functional zones: a play and development zone, the main public square, a zone for integrating the municipality's residents, and a sports zone. Each has its own functional axes, while the green ribbon of the main pedestrian route, meandering between the buildings and supplemented by cross-links, ties the whole together. The campus therefore reads not as a single school building but as a group of buildings forming courtyards and squares of varying character. The development is low and broken up – white flat-roofed volumes with timber cladding elements and canopies of timber slats, scaled to the suburban setting. The main public square has a ground-level fountain with sprinklers, open for play in season. The sports zone includes a pitch with an oval running track and an indoor swimming pool; the play and development zone, an extensive playground with tall planting. A key premise is that the campus does not serve pupils alone: a dedicated zone for the municipality's residents and a public square make it a local centre accessible outside school hours. Car parks and access roads are pushed to the edges, keeping the interior entirely pedestrian.
